Pouring
rain in August - come September and brilliant
sunshine can
again be guaranteed for the show at Amberley!
With the weather forecasters
predicting one of the best September days on record,
and many other events
on at the same time (including Shoreham Air Show),
we spent the whole week
thinking how quiet this show would be.
Chris and Jo were joined by Malcolm and Helen
for an early morning
start, with the mist still hanging over the nearby
River Arun. The first priority was
to get the gazebo up, to offer some shade because
as the sun came round
from behind the former quarry workings it beat
down on our pitch outside the
new Umeburners' Restaurant
Malcolm sweated away on the pole-lathe, taking
on a commission for
a large carrier bag handle whilst Chris, remembering
the South of England
Show, thought that cleaving wood and making a
lot of noise would attract the
crowds. This was to produce some pieces of ash
to make a gate.
Many thanks to the volunteers, including Barbara
Roberts, who
attended to help out on the day.
The cold beer waiting at home was more than welcome!
