Activities
Tottington Woodlanders engage in a wide range of activities. Check our events calendar to see what’s coming soon.
Our main objective is conservation work to maintain Tottington Wood Local Nature Reserve as coppiced ancient woodland. However, we are also engaged in a multitude of activities associated with this objective. Our constitution includes a clause to provide an educational component. We therefore give talks and guided walks to a range of individuals and groups. As part of the conservation work we undertake an annual floral survey, and a range of other ad hoc surveys based on the wood. To add value to the wood we cut we have revived a number of rural crafts including green woodwork and charcoal burning.
To maintain the other activities there is a considerable amount of administration. This includes committee work, website management, preparation of articles for the newsletters, distribution of newsletters, planning activities and managing the membership database.
The wood is a semi-natural ancient woodland, and as such has been in existence for a very long time. There is still a great amount of work to be done in understanding the history of the wood and its part in the rural economy over time.
