Running the AGM was fraught with a number of difficulties this year. The Trustees (committee) gave the issue considerable thought and eventually came to the decision to cancel the AGM for 2020. Initially we were not even sure if it was acceptable to not hold the AGM of a charity; at a legal and formal level. To this end we did some burrowing into the Charity Commission website and discovered that it is indeed legitimate to cancel an AGM under unusual circumstances. We considered that society is currently going through some extremely exceptional circumstances.
At the time of writing, Small Dole Village Hall is closed. According to the website there is no plan to reopen the hall in the foreseeable future. The hall is very small, and it would not be possible to hold a socially distanced meeting for more than a handful of people. The existing Covid restrictions do not allow for indoor gatherings of sufficient size to make the AGM viable.
Members of the charity have been sent the audited accounts and arrangements for managing the trustees.
